Semaine de la citoyenneté – “Rebâtir nos sociétés”

UNESCO-PREV Chair co-holder Pr. Marie-Eve Carignan will give a lecture as part of the 12th edition of Semaine de la citoyenneté, entitled “Rebâtir nos sociétés”.

“While the problem of misinformation is not new, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the dangers of this phenomenon. Canada is facing an “infodemia” that is leading some people to adopt more extremist positions, increasing social polarization and potentially compromising public safety. This adherence to misinformation is strongly linked to a distrust of government, the media and law enforcement agencies. How, in this context, can we disentangle the true from the false? What is conspiratorial thinking? What are the risks of it leading to violent protests? How can we talk about it and maintain a dialogue with convinced adherents?”.

Where: Cégep du Vieux-Montréal, room A4.82a

When: Wednesday, April 3, 3:30 to 5 p.m.
