Vivek Venkatesh Speaking at KU Leuven’s Live Webinar on Radicalism, Extremism, and Islamophobia

Location: Online

Start Date:

Vivek Venkatesh, co-holder of the UNESCO-PREV Chair and director of the Someone Project, will participate in a live webinar on radicalism, extremism and Islamophobia organized by the Institute of Media Studies of KU Leuven.

The last decades have witnessed an increase in hate discourses, sentiments and practices from and to Muslims, simply categorized as Islamic extremism and Islamophobia in online media. Concerns over hate discourse have become a prominent feature in public discussions. The recent events and evidence demonstrate that these two extreme ideologies travelled across local contexts to become a global phenomenon with the arrival of populist parties and movements (Abbas, 2019). Hence, the topic of professor Venkatesh’s presentation is “Islamophobia in print media in Québec – a mixed method analysis”.

This interdisciplinary webinar will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (Québec time). Registration is mandatory in order to participate.
