In the winter of 2016, the SHERPA Research Centre, in partnership with the Fédération des cégeps, Collège de Rosemont, Collège de Maisonneuve and IRIPI, launched the first phase of a major study on the determinants of support for violent radicalization among Quebec high school students. This study was in response to measure 2.1.5 of the Intergovernmental Plan to Combat Violent Radicalization in Quebec (Government Action Plan 2015–2018 [Plan d’action gouvernemental 2015-2018, la radicalisation au Québec : agir, prévenir, détecter et vivre ensemble]). It aimed to better understand the relationships between the current inter-community context, feelings of alienation or experiences of exclusion and discrimination, and psychological distress and/or support for violent radicalization among youth.
