This spring the “Centre d’expertise et de formation sur les intégrismes religieux et la radicalisation” (CEFIR) gave a series of lectures in CEGEPs and universities. Director Martin Geoffroy first participated in the Socratic Pub at the Medley Simple Malt on March 25th with the theme ” Fundamentalism and Radicalization: Personal Beliefs and Their Effect on Others.” He also presented the conference Pathways of Radicalization during the Springtime of Culture at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, on March 27th, 2019 and at Cégep de Granby on April 25th. Finally, he went to the Royal Military College in Kingston on May 3, where he explained the links between the extreme right and the “La Meute” group.
Associate researcher André Gagné contributed to the Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe Social Sciences Week with his lecture The Ideology of Death and its Representations in the Propaganda of the Armed Group Islamic State on April 9th.
These presentations are part of CEFIR’s mandate, which is both to popularize scientific knowledge to a wide audience and to contribute to the construction of knowledge through original research.
