The University of Siena has invited our co-holder Vivek Venkatesh to lecture at the Department of Social, Political and Cognitive Sciences’ Summer School: “Prevenire la radicalizzazione. Modelli e strumenti in prospettiva multidisciplinare” [Preventing radicalisation. Models and tools in multidisciplinary perspective].
The Summer School aims to equip students with the skills required to better understand how radicalisation occurs to help prevent it. Courses are offered to individuals in the helping professions who work with populations at risk of radicalisation and will address topics such as radicalisation from a group and community perspective, radicalisation and critical thinking, as well as religious radicalisation.
Venkatesh will be giving three lectures during the week-long Summer School. He will first join Benjamin Ducol of l’Université de Montréal and Farhad Khosrokhavar of l’École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris, to kick off the Summer School with a round table discussion entitled: “Comprendere i nuovi fenomeni di radicalizzazione”. Together, they will touch on new, critical perspectives in radicalisation studies and address the challenges faced in training professionals as experts in radicalisation prevention. Venkatesh will then discuss radicalisation prevention strategies during his lecture on: “Social Pedagogy as a frame to magnify narratives of resilience in an age of polarization: Theoretical and practical implications from the international initiatives of Project SOMEONE”. Finally, he has the honours of closing the Summer School with an experiential session on “Discussing and debating sensitive topics: Leveraging arts-based and socio-pedagogical practices in an era of polarisation”.
