Counter‐Narratives for the Prevention of Violent Radicalisation: A Systematic Review of Targeted Interventions

A new report titled “Counter‐narratives for the prevention of violent radicalisation: A systematic review of targeted interventions” was recently released in Campbell Systematic Reviews. The objective of this review was to provide a synthesis of the effectiveness of counter‐narratives in reducing the risk of violent radicalisation. The review contributes to existing literature on violent radicalisation‐prevention, highlighting the care and complexity needed to design and evaluate narrative‐based interventions which directly counter existing, dominant narratives.

Pablo Madriaza, the scientific coordinator of the UNESCO-PREV Chair, has been invited to participate in the online conference “Is there radicalization in Chile? The Chilean Social Explosion and Comparative Evidence”. Organized by the Center for the Study of Conflict and Social Cohesion of Chile (COES), the event will take place on Wednesday, September 30th, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. (Quebec time).

The International Centre for Transdisciplinary Research and Studies (CIRET) in France, the National School of Anthropology and History (ENAH) in Mexico, the UNESCO Transdisciplinary Chair on Human Development and Culture of Peace at the University of Florence (UTC) in Italy and the Centre for Transdisciplinary Education (CETRANS) in Brazil are co-organizing the Third World Congress on Transdisciplinarity. The event, which will be held from October 30, 2020 to September 3, 2021, will take place in virtual venues.

Vivek Venkatesh, co-holder of the UNESCO-PREV Chair, will participate in the academic activities of this virtual congress on January 29, 2021.

The Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS), the Centre for the Prevention of Radicalization Leading to Violence (CPRMV) and the Consultative Centre for Jewish-Israeli Relations (CIJA) are co-organizing a webinar called “From Antisemitism to Deep-State Theory: Understanding Conspiracy Theories to Better Confront Them”. The virtual event will take place on September 17, 2020 from 10:30 to 11:30.

Marie-Ève Carignan, UNESCO-PREV Chair’s Director of the Media Division, will be a panelist alongside Jeff Yates, journalist at Radio-Canada, and Rudy Reichstadt, of Conspiracy Watch.
