Secularism, Radicalization, Islamophobia

Location: Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec

Start Date:

CEFIR offered the following workshops: Secularism, Radicalization, Islamophobia: A series of Trainings on Current Notions.

The CEFIR team offered a series of workshops to various audiences in the Montérégie. On March 4, Associate Researcher Stéphanie Tremblay, Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at UQÀM, trained educators at the Cégep de Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu on the issues surrounding the notion of secularism.

On March 12, director Martin Geoffroy, a professor at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, facilitated the workshop The Paths of Radicalization to the CIUSSS Montérégie-Est. As social workers, specialized educators and front-line psychologists are often the first to respond to violent radicalization, it is essential that they are current on the subject.

Finally, professor-practitioner Steve Medeiros, of Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, gave a workshop on Islamophobia for the Spring of Culture at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit during the week of March 25 to 29, and the Social Sciences Week at Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe on April 11th.
