New CEFIR Report: Teaching Sensitive Topics to College Students

Justine Castonguay-Payant, doctoral student in education sciences at the Université de Montréal and member of the Centre d’expertise et de formation sur les intégrismes religieux, les idéologies politiques et la radicalisation (CEFIR), and Martin Geoffroy, director of CEFIR and professor of sociology at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, recently published a research report titled “Radicalization, sensitive subjects and co-constructions of knowledge: a review of the literature”. This report explores key research on approaches to addressing sensitive topics, particularly radicalization, in college education. This question is at the heart of the educational community’s concerns about issues that can affect both students and teachers.

Human Rights Impact of Policies and Practices Aimed at Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism

A report of the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, the document, which was submitted to the United Nations General Assembly (UN), addresses the global and national effects of the widespread use of policies and practices aimed at preventing and countering violent extremism.

“Death and Fanatisms”: A Special Issue from Frontières Journal Coordinated by CEFIR’s Team

The latest issue released by Frontières, a scientific journal focused on the study of death, spotlights the Centre d’expertise et de formation sur les intégrismes religieux, les idéologies politiques et la radicalisation (CEFIR) and represents the culmination of research work begun in 2017. Coordinated by Martin Geoffroy, Director of CEFIR, and Ali Dizboni, Co-Researcher (affiliated with the Collège militaire royal de Kingston), this issue is themed Death and Fanatisms, which was also the subject of a conference organized by CEFIR at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit back in November 2017.
